Here we have a selection of undyed natural yarns, most of them made right here in Canada. Many knitters prefer to work with yarns in their lovely natural tones, but dyeing them yourself is always an option to consider. Many of these are the same yarns that Dyeguy John uses for his various colourways.

Dyers will love working with the many bases. John uses professional acid dyes but food colouring, Kool-Aid and natural dyes are just as effective. From hand painting to kettle dyeing, tie-dyeing and all sorts of other fancy application methods, these top-quality yarns will not disappoint!

Bamboogie Natural – skein
Bamboogie Natural – skein
80% Rayon from Bamboo / 20% Superwash Merino wool. Fingering weight, 4-ply. Approximately 115g (4.06 oz), 431m (472yd). Gauge: 2-3.25mm needles. 6 to 8 stitches = 1 inch, or as pattern requires. Laundering: Handwash cool, hang or dry flat. The same base yarn we use for our Bamboogie™ line. Absolutely fantastic lustre and a beautiful soft hand are the main features of this yarn. It shows stitch definition very well. Nice for warmer weather wear. This yarn is somewhat tricky to dye, because of the two very different fibres. Fibre reactive dyes will work great, but we use acid dyes ourselves. Because the acid dyes only strike on the wool, the final effect is pastel and subtly heathered. When using acid dyes be prepared to do copious amounts of rinsing to get rid of excess dye that lurks but doesn't strike on the bamboo! Dyed colourways of Bamboogie are listed under Yarns > Dyeguy PRODUCT of CANADA Price per skein. Approximately 115g.

Casual Cashmere Lace – 1-Lb Value Pack
Casual Cashmere Lace – 1-Lb Value Pack
80% Superwash Merino wool / 10% Cashmere / 10% Nylon. Lace weight, 2-ply. Approximately 115g (4.06 oz), 525m (575yd). Gauge: because of the open work in lace knitting, gauge is seldom given for lace weight yarns. Follow your pattern recommendations for best results. Laundering: Handwash cool, dry flat. A "thickish" lace weight yarn, and even at only 10% the cashmere shines through in the super-soft hand. Perfect for shawls, scarves, cowls and so forth. We haven't worked with this yet, so we're not sure how much it will bloom during knitting/dyeing/rinsing but it will likely get a bit of a halo yet not enough to hide your fancy stitches. This yarn takes dye beautifully, whether you are using acid dyes, food colouring, Kool-aid or even natural dyes. Just bear in mind that Superwash yarn blends strike with acid dyes so quickly that it can be very tricky to get a decent solid tone. Use that to your advantage like we do, to get interesting semi-solids or go crazy with hand painting. PRODUCT of CANADA Price for 4 skeins, approximately 115g each. A 15% savings on our regular price.

Flaxen Silk Natural – 1-Lb Value Pack
Flaxen Silk Natural – 1-Lb Value Pack
65% Silk / 35% Linen. Lace weight, 2-ply. Approximately 115g (4.06 oz), 691m (756yd). Gauge: because of the open work in lace knitting, gauge is seldom given for lace weight yarns. Follow your pattern recommendations for best results. Laundering: Handwash cool, dry flat. John has only played around with this base a couple of times. It has a linen feel to the hand but with some lustre from the silk, in an ivory-beige shade. A good choice for summer shawls or other non-wool lace projects. The natural colour is a greyed ivory. Fibre reactive dyes might be the best choice for this yarn, but we've also tried acid dyes with good results. Just bear in mind that the linen component will not strike with the dye, so copious rinsing will have to be done. We found this needs a couple of days to hang and dry thoroughly before reskeining or winding, or it has a tendency to snag on the swift and break. Joy of Soy Natural – 1-lb Value Pack
Joy of Soy Natural – 1-lb Value Pack
100% Soy fibre. Fingering weight, 2-ply. Approximately 115g (4.06 oz), 349m (382yd). Gauge: 2.75-3.25mm needles. 6.5 to 7 stitches = 1 inch, or as pattern requires. Laundering: Hand wash cool, dry flat. This is a lovely yarn that would be perfect for summerwear, as an alternative to cotton. It has a softer feel to the hand than cotton but soy shares many of the same properties. It's a relatively thick fingering weight that makes for a fairly quick knit, depending on the project of course. NOTE this yarn has a nubbly texture with random flattened areas that are not obvious until during knitting. Despite this, it holds stitch detail quite well. Soy fibre is made from soybeans, and acts like a protein fibre in the manner it takes up dye. Use regular acid dyes, food colouring, Kool-Aid or natural dyes with the usual mordants. We find this base is absolutely gorgeous in rich jewel tones and also looks great in pastels. It dyes up close-to-solid with very little effort, but hand painting and other techniques would work just fine too. Dyed colourways of Joy of Soy™ are listed under Yarns > Dyeguy PRODUCT of CANADA Price for 4 skeins, approximately 115g each. A 15% savings on our regular price.

Natural Lace Yarn @ The Fibre Garden
Lace Time Natural – 1-Lb Value Pack
100% Superwash Merino wool. Lace weight, 2-ply. Approximately 115g (4.06 oz), 885m (968yd). Gauge: because of the open work in lace knitting, gauge is seldom given for lace weight yarns. Follow your pattern recommendations for best results. Laundering: Machine wash cool, tumble dry on low, hang or dry flat. The same base yarn we use for our Lace Time™ line. The spin is smooth and soft. While at first it might seem strange to choose Superwash Merino for a fine lace shawl, it's a good choice if you are knitting for others and don't know about their laundering decisions. Because of the superwash wool this is not suitable for felting. This yarn takes dye beautifully, whether you are using acid dyes, food colouring, Kool-aid or even natural dyes. Just bear in mind that Superwash yarn strikes with acid dyes so quickly that it can be very tricky to get a decent solid tone. Laundering: Machine wash cool, tumble dry on low, hang or dry flat. Similar to the base yarn we use for our Socky-talky line, but using long-staple BFL wool instead of Merino.
