Pin Cherry Leaves

Growing all over western Canada and into Ontario and eastward, the Pin Cherry is a medium-sized shrub or small tree with tiny red sour cherries that make wonderful jelly if you have the patience to pick them. The botanical name is Prunus pensylvanica.

Pin Cherries are not particularly generous in their foliage, and it's a good idea to only strip the leaves from a few branches to leave some for the health of the bush. With an alum premordant it gave buttery yellow, but with copper the colours shifted towards green, especially wonderful on the mohair-blend yarn in the centre.
