Dyed Silk Noils

July/2013 - We've just sourced a supply of poppin' bright dyed silk noils. These are cultivated silk noils, aka mulberry silk or bombyx silk. Noils are "blobs" of silk, probably a byproduct from reeling silk, or maybe from cocoons that don't quite make the grade. They're terrific for carding to produce tweedy yarns with bits of colours here and there. They can be spun into yarn by themselves with will give that rustic "raw silk" look and feel.

Noils have a multitude of uses: blending with wool and other fibres for spinning, blending with other fibres for felting, or using as embellishments for wet, needle and Nuno felting projects. We're sure paper makers probably love these as well. And maybe even fly fishers.
